Has Facetime influenced an increase in chin implants?

For those of you who listened to news on the way to
work in yesterday morning, you may have heard some surprising statistics
released by ASPS (American Society for Plastic Surgery). The statistics state
that there was a 71% increase in the number of chin implant surgeries
(Mentoplasty) performed from 2010 to 2011. Whoa!  Even I was surprised at
that number. That is a more hefty increase than breast augmentation;
liposuction and Botox combine, according to the ASPS.  Like everyone else listening to those
statistics, you’re probably wondering what the driving force is behind the 71% increase
in chin augmentations over the course one year.

Now, I am not surprised that chin implants are popular  choice, as they are a true un-glorified work horse in the quest to improve
facial harmony.  This procedure has been  around for decades with hundreds of thousands of enriching success stories.  Best of all, it’s undetectable, even to your  closest friend!

Chin implant surgery is rarely thought of, often  misunderstood, but immensely rewarding. The idea behind a chin implant isn’t to go in looking like Keira Knightley and come out looking like Jay Leno. People often
have an image in their head of looking like a caricature, but I assure you that  isn’t the case.  At least not in the  skills hands of a plastic surgeon like G.D. Castillo, .D.https://www.cosmeticplasticsurgery.com/cosmetic-surgery/chin-surgery.cfm  It is a subtle change that can simply restore  a profile of the lower face and the neck to achieve more youthful look.  The best candidates for this procedure are  those who have a weak or receding chin, jowls, excessive neck tissue or a
larger nose.

Dr. Castillo, at Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Clinic uses Chin  implants to solve various facial and neck concerns, not just to increase the  protrusion of the chin”.  Chin augmentationhttps://www.cosmeticplasticsurgery.com/cosmetic-surgery/chin-surgery.cfm can be used to correct a weak or recessed chin by re-establishing  the proportional balance of the face for many of our Central Illinois patients.  In males in particular, a strong chin is  associated with masculinity and strength.  Men who present with a strong chin or jaw line are often perceived as  leaders, men of power and assertiveness.  In the case of a female face, a chin implant can create proportional  balance, ridding unwanted jowls and saggy neck tissue.  The result changes a round face into a more chiseled, femine form.

A receding chin can also make a normal sized nose appear  large or prominent nose appear even larger.
In some cases, a Rhinoplasty (nose job) https://www.cosmeticplasticsurgery.com/cosmetic-surgery/rhinoplasty.cfm is used in combination with chin augmentation to adequately provide the best facial balance possible.

An increasing number of both our male and female patients seeking  plastic surgery are bothered by their increasing jowls and a double chin,  whether the condition is due to a congenital deformity or normal aging.  Jowls and sagging neck tissue concerns have
recently become amplified with the use of video chatting tools like Skype and Facetime by Apple.  If you haven’t  experienced the different ways to communicate via video, check it out.  Though I caution you – this activity is not  for the faint at heart.   For many of us heading into a more “mature” stage of life, it may not be so flattering.  A chin implant or chin implant with a mid- cheek / neck lift or neck liposuction can erase their concerns and put patients at ease once again.

This truly is a 10 years younger type procedure!
