Restoring Your Eyelashes With Latisse

Friday, June 19th, 2009
When I look at my teenage daughters, I am constantly reminded of the amount of feminine character and beauty a full set of eyelashes provide. I see their lashes and think… “that used to be me. I would give anything to have my long lashes back.” I have heard several similar stories from patients who are suffering with eyelash / eyebrow loss.
Allergan Inc. introduced Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution .3%) late 2008. It is the first and ONLY FDA-approved treatment for inadequate eyelashes. Latisse is a prescription treatment used to increase the length and thickness of your eyelashes, as well as darken them.
Over past few years, a few other non-prescription (over-the-counter eyelash treatments were developed. The results were disappointing. So I must admit, at first I was very caution about bringing Latisse into the office. After all, we want only the best for our patients and it is our job to make sure that’s exactly what they get. Once I completed further research on Latisse / bimatoprost, reviewed the clinical trials on effectiveness and safety and talked in dept with Dr. Castillo, I became more confident that Latisse was indeed a good product.
Interestingly, the effect that bimatoprost has on lash growth was discovered through the treatment of patients with Glaucoma. Ophthalmologists noted a side effect of using bimatoprost for the treatment of glaucoma was increased eyelash growth. Patients had to trim their eyelashes because their lashes were hitting their glasses! Can you imagine?
When I was a teenager, I shared my eyeliner with a friend. That was a huge life lesson for me. Both of my eyes became infected. I lost the majority of my eyelashes. In time, some of my lashes grew back. However, they were never the same. My once long, full set of lashes, were at best, stubby and sparse. I began using Latisse three and a half weeks ago. At the end of the second week, I began to notice improved lash length. It is increasing steadily.
Dr. Castillo has been prescribing Latisse in both the Central Illinois offices (Savoy –Champaign Urbana area) since the beginning of this year. Our patients are so thrilled with their results. It’s fun to see them walk into the office, batting their new found lashes with such pride. Truly, nothing says “I feel like a women,” like a full set of lashes and a smile.
Typically patients begin to see changes within 2-4 weeks. Within 2 months patients see a significant improvement. After witnessing the type of results our patients are experiencing, I have a feeling the days of wishing I had lashes as long as daughters are numbered.
We are exceptionally impressed with the quick response and results from this new eyelash treatment. I would encourage anyone, male or female, who suffers from lack of lashes to try this remarkable solution.
Even though Latisse must be prescribed by a physician, we are able to carry it in our office. That means there is no second stop at the pharmacy after you leave our office. You will be able to take Latisse home with you that day.
