For many of us, the passage of time leaves its signs on our skin in the form of sun damage, blotchiness, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. Thankfully, there's no reason to let these frustrating skin concerns go untreated. At Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. G.D. Castillo offers both traditional CO2 laser skin resurfacing and CO2 micro-fractional laser skin resurfacing to patients from Champaign and Savoy, Illinois, as well as those from other Midwest regions who wish to undo the effects of sun exposure, smoking, and other skin and environmental damage.

Your Options

Both the CO2 micro-fractional laser and traditional CO2 laser are considered the gold standard choice for all laser resurfacing procedures. They produce the most benefit available and can be customized for the specific needs of each patient. The first consideration is to match the appropriate laser to your specific needs.

Read more about each below.

CO2 Micro-Fractional Laser Resurfacing

CO2 micro-fractional laser resurfacing is a less invasive, non-surgical CO2 laser option that increases the possibilities for busy people who desire skin that looks healthy, youthful, smooth, and clear. This treatment is unique because it allows the skin to be treated with the most advanced laser technology, CO2, for maximum impact and results with minimal downtime. This procedure is safe for virtually all skin types.

This option is also unique because, for the first time in the history of CO2 laser skin resurfacing, we can safely and effectively treat the face and other areas of the body, including:

  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Hands

CO2 micro-fractional laser resurfacing has evolved over the past few years and is now available in 2 treatment levels.

Level I is the most superficial level and used for patients with Mild to moderate damage.

Level II is a deeper, more aggressive treatment used for patients with moderate to advanced damage or acne scarring. A single treatment can show significant, long-lasting improvements for the following:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Brown spots
  • Large pores
  • Acne scars
  • Rough texture
  • Skin clarity
  • Collagen loss
  • Crow's feet
  • Skin laxity
  • Elastin loss

Our patients are impressed with the immediate improvement in their skin texture, tightness, and clarity, as well as a reduction in lines. These changes can be observed within just a few days of treatment. Within 4 to 6 days, our patients are able to cover signs of the treatment with cosmetics, allowing them to return to their normal social obligations. Levels I and II are performed by Roxanne, our skincare and laser specialist, while you are awake in our comfortable, state-of-the-art skincare suite. Having performed more than 800 laser procedures at Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center, Roxanne brings both her warm, friendly, professional demeanor as well as the knowledge and experience necessary to consistently deliver the beautiful results you desire while upholding the highest in safety standards.

"After a lifetime of poor choices such as smoking, nutrition, and sun tanning, my face had accelerated signs of photo aging and clearly displayed my decisions. I sought professional solutions and after consulting with three different cosmetic physicians in Champaign, I decided to go with Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. I choose them because I was not pressured, and instead was clearly informed of what solutions would be optimal and those that would not. In the end, I opted for CO2 Micro-Fractional Laser Resurfacing and my results are phenomenal.

From beginning to end, the staff was professional, considerate, confident, and concerned about my expectations and overall well-being. In fact, I was given the cell number of the skincare and laser specialist because the office was to be closed over the holidays. The day after the procedure, I had to reach out to her because I was concerned about my facial conditions and needed to know if the results were typical. Roxanne was generous, considerate, and helpful. Her calm demeanor and clear instructions afforded me to be reassured that all was well.

I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic, as I believe you will not find a better group of cosmetic professionals. The care and concern extends beyond the procedure. Beyond this, it works. I have at least 10 years removed from my face, in a relatively short amount of time and with minimal discomfort. If you are considering a new you, I recommend you schedule an appointment with the Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center. The professionals are stellar and I believe you will not be disappointed!" B.D.

Traditional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

If you're looking for the most dramatic results available, you may want to consider traditional CO2 laser skin resurfacing. Dr. Castillo has performed thousands of successful CO2 laser skin resurfacing procedures. This procedure is performed in our outpatient surgical facility using general anesthesia, and it is technically considered a surgical treatment. It is the strongest of the CO2 laser resurfacing treatment options and therefore requires a bit more downtime. This procedure can be even further enhanced with the addition of dermabrasion, or skin planing.

Traditional CO2 laser skin resurfacing, also referred to as our Level III option, is a one-time laser procedure, ideal for those with more advanced aging or skin damage. It's best for treatment of moderate to severe skin concerns, including:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Brown spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars
  • Rough texture
  • Collagen loss
  • Blotchiness
  • Skin laxity
  • Elastin loss

Following the surgery, special products that enhance the growth of new skin should be applied to the face for the first week. This will facilitate and speed up the regrowth of skin as well as the formation of new collagen.

While the ability to work is not impaired, most patients may return to work and social activities within 7 to 9 days, depending on the extent of treatment. At that point, the skin will appear red and "sunburned." You'll be able to apply makeup after 7 days. Our skincare specialist can teach you how to camouflage the pink or red skin appearance so you can return to your normal social activities.
