Patients looking for advice on neck rejuvenation or neck lift surgery in the Bloomington and Champaign, IL areas come to Dr. G.D. Castillo with a common concern: There is no clear distinction between the patient's chin and neck. This may occur with age or weight changes, or it may be the result of an underlying skeletal structure issue such as a short mandible, which often runs in families. A strong, angled contour of the jawline is a sign of youth and beauty and helps to create overall facial balance.

Your Surgical Options

Depending on your individual neck concerns, there is a variety of options and combinations to address an aging neck, fat deposits, jowls, or a sagging jawline that can accomplish the look you desire. Most facelift procedures include a neck lift for more comprehensive rejuvenation. Read on to learn more about your options:

Neck Liposculpture

For patients younger than 45, neck liposculpture may be all that is needed to correct a double chin. This type of neck lift consists of liposuction of the fatty tissue of the neck and tightening of the neck muscles. See patient photos. This procedure is carried out with a small, hidden incision right beneath the chin. Patients can return to work within 3 to 4 days. In some instances, neck liposculpture may be combined with a chin implant to correct a recessed chin.

Neck Lift

This is the most rewarding neck procedure for patients who have multiple signs of an aging neck and jawline. This procedure is often combined with a cheek lift. The typical neck lift or neck/cheek lift consists of a modified type of face lift in which the main emphasis is to remove as much excess neck skin and fatty tissue as possible, resulting in a smooth, youthful contour of the neck, jawline, and lower face. See patient photos. The procedure is typically carried out with an incision hidden within the hairline and behind the ear. The tissues of the lower face and neck are elevated, and the fatty tissue is removed. The muscle structure is tightened, and the excess skin is removed to create a well-balanced, youthful lower face, neck, and jawline. This procedure offers the most refreshing, dramatic effect while still maintaining a naturally toned appearance.

Chin Augmentation

Known as mentoplasty or chin implant surgery, chin augmentation is a true, unglorified workhorse in the quest to improve facial balance. See patient photos. Chin augmentation is needed when a patient has a short mandible or recessed chin. The lack of adequate bone structure tends to accentuate jowls and loose, sagging skin around the neck. When Dr. Castillo performs chin implant surgery in Bloomington or Champaign, IL, he creates subtle change that not even close friends can detect. The procedure simply restores the profile of the lower face and neck to achieve a more youthful look. The implants are available in a variety of sizes proportional to the needs of the individual. This procedure is carried out through a small incision hidden beneath the chin. The implant is held by the tissue and muscle structure of the jaw area, eliminating any need for wire or screw fixation. Dr. Castillo will elevate and tighten the surrounding tissue at this time, as well. This procedure can be performed on its own or in combination with a neck/cheek lift. Direct Neck Excision

Excision of neck skin can be carried out with a resulting midline incision. It is only used in special circumstances and typically in older individuals.

You can expect to spend 1 to 1.5 hours in recovery after your surgery, and then you will be released to recover in the comfort of your own home.
