This 51-year old female from Mahomet, Illinois, is seen for a "tummy-tuck" She is 147-pounds and 5'3" in height. She has a history of having developed looseness and roundness of the abdominal area following the birth of two children. During her first pregnancy, she noticed the appearance of striae (stretch marks) throughout the abdomen, but particularly in her lower abdomen. She also noticed rounding and a pouch formation in her lower abdomen, which became worse with the second pregnancy. She finds it difficult to "suck in" her stomach and her large abdomen is not only embarrassing to her, but also difficult to hide when she is wearing pants and fitted dresses or skirts. She has found the need to use loose, baggy clothing to conceal her bulges. She finds that it is very uncomfortable to attend social events.

After reviewing pictures and explaining how abdominoplasty is carried out, she underwent an abdominoplasty in Champaign/Urbana’s Cosmetic Plastic Surgery fully accredited outpatient surgical facility, with liposuction of both the stomach and hip areas. Following our routine protocols, she was kept ambulatory at all times following surgery and her drains were removed 24 hours after. She went on to carry out light routine activities for the first week after surgery and resumed a normal life after the first week. Stitches were removed from the lower abdominal area at 7-days and the incision was kept taped for six to eight weeks to promote healing and prevent scar formation.

In reviewing her pictures at 3 months, we find that the majority of the stretch marks have been removed. There is a tighter, smaller, more youthful navel, which clearly enhances the youthfulness of the tight, flat abdomen, and the circumference of her waist and abdomen has improved by 3 and 4 inches respectively.

She finds that her posture has improved dramatically and she is able to wear nearly any garment without restriction. Her ability to exercise has improved dramatically. She is delighted with her figure – both dressed and in the nude.
